Karate is a system of physical, mental and spiritual training through which one can acquire the most effective self-defence skills. Originally synthesized in the Ryu-Kyu Kingdom (present Okinawa) from Ryukyu-Ti (Ryukyuan fighting style) and Chinese martial arts and later refined in the Mainland Japan.

There are a number of styles of Karate, and in each the teaching varies slightly, as do the emphasis on speed, strength and type of technique. Shotokan takes the balanced approach, developing training systems that instill the individual with confidence and self-control. Originated by the Okinawan teacher Gichin Funakoshi who introduced Karate to Japan in 1922, Shotokan was extensively developed by the Japanese Master Masatoshi Nakayama. There have been relatively few changes since then and Shotokan has spread to become the most widely praticed style of Karate throughout the world.
The ISKF is a traditional Shotokan Karate Organization, founded in 1977 by Master Teruyuki Okazaki, who studied directly under Master Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan Karate. The ISKF strives to uphold the integrity and goals of Master Funakoshi, which includes following the guidelines and principles set forth by the Dojo Kun and Niju Kun.
The ISKF is rich in tradition, but continuously moves forward to bring all countries together to follow these same guidelines.
